Club Capri executive 100th anniversary gala

Club Capri Gala Celebrates 100 Years

Celebrating a century of Italian heritage in Thorold, Club Capri hosted its 100th Anniversary Gala on October 28.
Close to 300 patrons enjoyed an elegant evening that started with a cocktail reception followed by an exquisite dinner and musical entertainment by the Introduction band.
Numerous presentations by dignitaries honoured the Order of the Sons of Italy lodge for its advancement of Italian heritage, while recognizing donations in excess of $500,000 to charitable groups. As the second Italian club to be incorporated in Canada in 1917, the lodge has a strong history for loyal community service and promotion of the Italian culture.
The organization looked to build a hall in Thorold in May 1953 when land was purchased on the corner of Cleveland and Lyndon streets
Back in the 1950’s, members planned to build a hall funded by financial donations and constructed with volunteer labour. The membership eventually paid off the mortgage in June 1959. A few years later in 1963, members voted to drop its original branding as the Gabrielle D’Annunzio lodge, and it was renamed Club Capri No. 2.
Over its rich history in the community, Club Capri has financially supported to groups such as the Thorold Community Activities Group, Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Community Care of St. Catharines – Thorold, Wellspring Niagara, Canadian Cancer among other charities.
