Port Robinson Walking Tours

Port Robinson Update By Pamela J.Minns, Heritage Thorold LACAC

Thorold does not only consist of “Thorold.” We have St. Johns, Port Robinson, Allanburg, Beaverdams; all proud parts of our City of Thorold.
The village of Port Robinson is one of our earliest settlements and is steeped in history with a very active group there who are making sure we are aware of this wonderful community that they say is.“10 minutes from everywhere in the middle of nowhere.!”
The Bridge, as their newsletter is called, reports on the old lock, bus service, the park, the guided walks, the Port Robinson Ferry appropriately named “Bridge-It” (which transports pedestrians and cyclists across the canal – a real adventure), and much more.
Walking tours of this picturesque community are being conducted. The first one took place June 14th with more to come on July 16th and tentative date of September 18th. These are 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with lunch. The tour costs $12.00 per person.
The tour conducted by Tom Russell, a resident of the village is well-versed on this community and a member of LACAC. Register by email:
portrobinsonproud@gmail.com .  There are also several wonderful homes designated as heritage buildings in Port Robinson.
Find a copy of The Bridge and read the stories in the newsletter of Port Robinson, an interesting and historically important community, all part of our City of Thorold.

Port Robinson is a small community in the southernmost part of Thorold, Ontario, Canada. The community is divided in half by the Welland Canal, as there is no bridge in the immediate vicinity to connect the two halves of the community. In the summer, a small free ferry for pedestrians and cyclists runs across the canal. In the winter, residents must use the bridge on Highway 20, which results in a 13.3 km (8.3 mi) trip to get to the other side
