Thorold City Councillors election

Thorold City Councillor Election Decisions

There is a crossroad in Thorold where we need to decide on a very important turn, and it is not the intersection at St David Road and Townline Road (that’s an accident waiting to happen). It is not even a question of turning left or right. Frankly, the decisions voters make on October 22, 2018, for Thorold Municipal Councillor should take the community on a new and positive course. In the rear view mirror, we can see from results of recent elections in our city that every vote counts.

On that basis, make your vote count with an informed decision. Although there are 18 candidates on the ballot, Mervin Wrighton has dropped out of the race, so this actually gives us 17 contenders on the list to choose from.  Don’t waste your vote on Mervin.

Who will get your votes for Thorold City Councillor on October 22?

Help us strengthen our measurement of the pulse of the community and take our online survey.
We know it is a challenge these days for voters to cut through the political propaganda and get bona fide information they need to choose from a relatively long list of candidates. So to assist voters in their decisions on the election date, consider the facts, figures and check out the current favourites based on our community group’s criteria in the campaign.

In voting for City Councillors, we feel it is important to choose candidates that are independent and non-partisan. We know what happens when politicians are motivated and influenced by personal commitments to a business ownership or when they serve as lobbyists for other special interest groups. Just look at the mess at the Niagara Region for an example.

  • INDEPENDENCE TO SERVE ALL RESIDENTS

Our City Councillors must be advocates for all the people of Thorold. City Council would be undermined by councillors representing their neighbourhood, club, or other special interest group.  Make your vote count by voting for candidates that can make an impartial commitment to serve the best interests of all the residents.

  • EXPERIENCE

Experience matters when councillors make big decisions on multi-million dollar budgets. Taxation is a massive proposition that needs decision-makers who understand what it means for local homeowners to pay taxes. We need decision-makers who know what it takes to raise a family in Thorold.  We need councillors who understand the challenges for caregivers providing support of the elderly and residents with special needs  in our community. City councillors must come prepared with experience serving on the local boards and committees where decisions are made by building consensus on votes.

  • INTEGRITY

Integrity, honesty, and personal accountability are also important aspects we feel are essential to assess in choosing our next city councillors.

Add it all up and we see eight candidates on the slate to make Thorold great. Thorold can change together when we vote together. It is up to voters now to determine which turn we take.
