Amma’s Place  Home Childcare Service Opens June 4
Carol Ford is renewing her passion for childcare by opening Amma’s Place in Thorold. The new home childcare service opens on June 4.
Designed with young ones in mind, the spacious playroom is set up with toys and activities to interest boys and girls from ages 9 months to 5 years. In a very bright and cheerful environment, large floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the back yard featuring a wooden playground. Music, stories, free-play indoors and outdoors, as well as nap time add up to a well-rounded quality program. Children also enjoy daily craft and creative activities, hot lunch and two healthy snacks.

Carol Ford _ Amma's Place“Amma’s Place offers families a warm homey environment for their young children, and a quality structured program for them to grow and develop physically, intellectually and socially prior to starting school,” said Carol Ford.

A former elementary school teacher, Carol also directed a number of licensed childcare centres for several years prior to achieving a successful career in sales.

Amma’s Place is located in Thorold’s beautiful Rolling Meadows community, just off Hwy 58 South. Directly across from the home childcare is a large soccer field.

The name Amma’s Place was chosen by the home childcare provider, Carol Ford, when she was contemplating what the children would call her. Carol and her husband Garry have four adult children, who each have two children of their own.  One of the eldest grandchildren, when just beginning to talk, called Garry and Carol, Ampa and Amma. While that grandchild grew into calling them the traditional Grandpa and Grandma, there are still two of their eight grandchildren who call Carol Amma.  Carol so loves that pet name, especially since these grandchildren are now teens, that she asked them if they would mind other children calling her Amma.  They love the idea, so hence the name Amma’s Place, and the children in Carol’s care call her Amma.
