Thorold Community Activities Group major donor recognition

Donor Recognition | Thorold Community Activities Group

We always find unity in a community that works together in Thorold.  This truism was celebrated at the Thorold Community Activities Group for their Major Donor Recognition Event on August 25.  In celebration of their successful Summer Camps Program, the TCAG thanked five organizations for their unified support. Hand-crafted thank you signs created by the TCAG campers were presented to Henderson’s Pharmacy, Niagara Region Children’s Services, Canada Summer Jobs, Canal Bank Shuffle, and the City of Thorold Canada 150 Committee.

The Thorold Community Activities Group has recorded an increase in summer camp registration, growing participation from 19 Campers per day in 2014 to more than 60 Campers per day in 2017.  At the recognition event, Thorold City Councillor Fred Neale congratulated TCAG Executive Director Dan Pelletier and all staff for providing “outstanding quality activities” for the kids, which he emphasized is the purpose of the community-based organization.

In support of the Summer Camps Program, Vance Badawey – MP Niagara Centre assisted the TCAG in gaining substantial funding from a Canada Summer Jobs program. In his assessment of the “spectacular quality” by TCAG, our Member of Parliament informed the group of local dignitaries at the presentation that the “returns are great.”

Of course, the high quality programs delivered by a passionate staff could not be delivered by the TCAG if it did not receive the support of local businesses and organizations.

Henderson’s Pharmacy generously donates the funds to offset the cost of the Summer Camps daily swim at the City of Thorold Community Pool on Richmond Street adjacent to the TCAG facility.  The Campers received a refreshing break from the summer heat while increasing their comfort level and skills in the water, thanks to the support by Henderson’s Pharmacy.  Actually, Henderson’s has  donated to the TCAG Summer Camps program and the general community with pool passes for several years.

“The TCAG day camps bring memorable fun for the kids, making friends for life, while providing parents the peace of mind that their children are in good hands,” stated Thorold Community Activities GroupBoard Denise Palomba.

The Regional Municipality of Niagara – Children’s Services provides much needed support/parent subsidies to eligible families for TCAG Licensed Child Care and Summer Day Camp.

The Government of Canada – Canada Summer Jobs/Vance Badawey, MP Niagara Centre provides funding support to eligible Student/Employees.  Eight qualified student/employees Counsellors of the TCAG Summer Day Camp received support to their wages for the summer; allowing them to save for their 2017/18 tuition while learning valuable leadership skills in the challenging role of Camp Counsellor.

The Thorold Community Activities Group partnered with the Canal Bank Shuffle and the Thorold – Canada 150 Committee to produce a 3-day music festival including a Canada Day celebration in July at the Battle of Beaverdams Park. The event produced $4,527 in fundraising for the TCAG’s family programming, while providing a cultural experience in our community.
