Thorold Fish and Chips – Food Review

When you are starving for a fish and chips dinner in the new Greater Thorold Area, you can catch a delicious meal at several hot spots around town.  To start off the August Long Weekend on Friday night, I headed to Thorold Fish and Chips to pick up dinner for three.

Thorold Fish & Chips 46 Front St N

The name says it all at Thorold Fish and Chips.  Located at 46 Front St. North, this clean but not fancy eatery is a small, quaint restaurant that is known for their famous fish and chips.

They offer take-out, eat-in, or delivery service for a fee as an option via Door Dash or Skip the Dishes.

Flaky, Tender Haddock Perfectly Cooked

I ordered their 6-piece haddock family pack to serve the three of us ($36.99.) They also offer cod and pollock, but their halibut is featured at a premium price (3 pieces $34.99). All their fish and chips dinners come with coleslaw, tarter, and lemon wedges.

The moist, flaky haddock tastes delicious with unique flavors and was perfectly cooked. All of us agreed the fish is tender and delicious in a thin and light batter. The batter is clean, golden coloured, which shows their deep fryers are serviced properly and the oil changed frequently.

The fish portion size is decent to satisfy a hearty appetite. The fries are piled up separately to pack a big cardboard box

The fries are very satisfying with a distinctive spicy flavour.  Ketchup was not included, so ask if you want some for the fries, but we just grabbed some French’s from the fridge. No problem.

Their coleslaw is tasty and tangy and a fair portion.

Thorold Fish and Chips – Friendly, Helpful Service

This was not my first time in this place, so I noticed a new staff at work.  They were crazy busy on a Friday night.  No worries; the team was friendly, helpful and very efficient.

On top of their fish and chips, this place has also gained loyal fans who love their shawarma, gyros, and falafel, available as wraps or plate dinners. Their menu also offers burgers, poutine, chicken nuggets among other foods. Check out their menu on Facebook.

I would wrap up the experience as a fair price for good quality foods, satisfying portions that taste delicious, which adds up to great value. It was a pleasant start to a great long weekend.
