McMillan Park Pool Opening 1948 Thorold

Kiwanis McMillan Park Pool History

Do you remember the Kiwanis McMillan Park Pool in Thorold?

Let’s take a few back strokes on Throwback Thursday in Thorold to check out the former Kiwanis McMillan Park Pool, which was built in 1948 at a cost of $45,000.  The McMillan Park Pool collage shown above was captured from the heritage photo on display at Henderson’s Pharmacy in Thorold.

Today the “Big Pool” has been replaced by a splash pad along with playground equipment and a sports practice field at McMillan Park #2 on Carleton Street. McMillan Park #2 is a 2-acre sports park located north of McMillan Park #1. A playground structure and swing set complement the splash pad in the park.

On the other side of city on 131 Richmond Street, near Collier Road, the Thorold Community pool was constructed at a cost of $3.87- million and opened in 2010.  It is a 6 lane, 25-metre outdoor pool that includes a gently sloped beach entry, spiral slide, diving board, splash pad and barrier-free access via a wheelchair ramp into the pool.  The pool has a maximum operating capacity of 350 patrons in the pool and on the pool deck.  The pool is also equipped with male and female change rooms and washrooms, a sound system and sun shelters around its perimeter.

Find more information on the Thorold Community Pool on the city website.  Henderson’s Pharmacy will be offering free passes to the Thorold Community Pool during the season.  More details on the passes will be announced soon.  Henderson’s Pharmacy is located at 15 Front St., South, Thorold.
