SUSOM Spirit Wear Campaign Made in Thorold

Think local and act globally is an idea we can see in this example of a Shop Thorold initiative that reaches across North America and to the Caribbean.

When the Saba University School of Medicine Alpha Mega Phi Honor and Service Society promoted a spirit wear fundraiser, Thorold native Christina Carfagnini decided to shop local.  A member of the Honour Society and current student at Saba USOM, Christina did some research on local spirit wear companies in Thorold and found FD Printing and Graphics.

Kevan Roy owner / operator of FD Printing located on 9 Front Street South in Thorold set up a cost-effective system for the campaign.  The FD package included top quality spirit wear at a competitive price, and the added value of shipping, fulfillment, an e-commerce website to sell the merchandise for the fundraiser, and processing payments.  The FD Printing system made it simple and effective for the fundraising committee comprised of students living in their hometowns across North America.

Saba University School of Medicine is a medical school located on Saba, a special municipality of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. Saba University confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine degree.

“Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, so far the Honor Society has been able to raise funds that are comparable to previous semesters. This is another example of how thinking locally can make a global impact,”

said Christina Carfagnini

For the fundraiser, $3 from every item sold will be donated to The Child Focus Foundation, which provides free after school programs to children and young adults on Saba

Saba University School of Medicine’s Alpha Omega Phi Honor and Service Society is a group of students selected based on high academic achievements and community service.

The Service Society organizes a fundraiser to support the Saba community each semester. Students and faculty were unsure if fundraising during the COVID-19 pandemic would even be possible.

“I was lucky to find a vendor who could print quality spirit-wear, create an online store, and complete shipping and handling right here in Thorold,”

said Christina.
