With a new focus on hosting community events the City of Thorold welcomed the Toronto Marlies and Rochester Americans at the Frank Doherty Arena on September 29. The Marlies beat the Americans 6-4 in the pre-season American Hockey League game.
A free pre-game festival featured face-painting for kids, food trucks, a Marlies Ally fun zone with inflatables, family activities, as well as the AHL Calder Cup on display. Maple Leafs alumni member Rick Vaive, the first Leaf to score 50 goals in a season, autographed souvenir cards.
