Kaetlyn Osmond TFSC Ice Show Guest Skater
The Thorold Figure Skating Club is proud to present their 68th annual Ice Show themed as “Dancing through the Decades” on February 23rd and 24th at the Thorold Arena. Figure skating fans will be happy to know that this year’s show will feature special guest skater Kaetlyn Osmond. A Canadian figure skater who competed in ladies’ singles, Kaetlyn is the 2018 World Champion, the 2018 Olympic team event champion, and the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist. Planting Idea For Community Garden
Carrie Cottage Bailey is planting an idea for a green initiative in our downtown community. The founder of the Downtown Thorold Market on Ormond Street, Carrie is now planning to rent space to local gardeners. “We have s a large area of prepped garden space with terrific sun exposure that has been excellent growing space in the past few years,” says Carrie. She is now looking for 10 to 15 people interested in a local garden space for growing their own organic vegetables in the summer months (June, July and Aug). Organic and heirloom varieties are favoured for the garden, she adds. Carrie feels this is an excellent opportunity for people who do not have access to prime gardening space. The area is on private property and fenced in and access to water is supplied. The garden section is available for a gardener to tend and care an 8 by 6-feet of “ready to plant” tilled space. The proposed rate is $150 for the 3 month season. Walk For Alzheimers Big Hit Exceeds Fundraising Goal
Alzheimer Awareness Month was raised by engaging the community in January but a couple of events really tried to make memories matter as hundreds of supporters stepped up to support the cause. Families, businesses and organizations teamed up to support the Walk for Alzheimer’s at Brock University on January 27. The event raised more than $120,000 exceeding the Alzheimer Society Niagara’s $95,000 target. Funds raised at the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s will help finance services provided for patients in the early stages of dementia. Stations along the 1 km walk route showcased health-related information and product samples for maintaining a healthy brain through diet, social activities and physical exercise. A health and wellness fair in the gym provided information around strategies to keep the brain healthy. Activities at the fair also raised attention to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and its effects. The family-friendly event also featured Fluffy the Clown and a raffle table to support the fundraising. Star Wars characters posed with donors to raise money for the charity. A Babysitting Angels Kid’s Zone with a mini-playground was added this year as a new feature. At the fun event, musician Cory Cruise entertained the audience enjoying the […]
