Unique creativity in Niagara on Saturday could translate into the Thorold Spring Arts and Crafts Show. The popular event held on May 13 presented one-of-a-kind creations by more than 70 juried artists and artisans from Ontario and Quebec. Unique creations filled the old Thorold Arena showed personalized creativity in eye-catching displays. A personal touch was expressed in hand made jewellery, home décor, creative photography and many other crafts. The 39th annual community event organized by Cathy Henderson and a team of volunteers has grown as a Thorold attraction that draws tourists to the city and we met Gary and William from Miami, Florida on a visit to Niagara.
Visitors were impressed with the re-purposing of materials into unique arts and crafts. For example, j9’s Ecofashions presented items such as ponchos, jean skirts, boot socks, and home decor made entirely from recycled materials.
Monica Gennaro from Beke Design in Stouffville dazzled the show with hand crafted jewellery. The fun and stylish pieces inspired by nature incorporate silver and a variety of semi-precious gemstones.
Thorold-based Michelle Maxwell, owner / designer of Little Town Crafts, showcased one-of-a-kind whimsical creations. Artisanal foods were sampled for visitors to taste goodies such as Ontario maple syrup and honey products. Live musical entertainment filled the arena with a performance by pianist Ed Pizzo.
The spring arts and crafts event featured karate and acroyoga demonstrations by the Thorold Community Activities Group. Admission to the family friendly event was $2 which supports fundraising for the TCAG.
The Thorold Community Activities Group T.C.A.G. is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Thorold and area residents by coordinating and delivering high quality recreational, cultural, child care, and educational programs and community services through committed volunteers and staff serving their community with pride. The T.C.A.G. was founded in October 1981 and the Group has grown in many ways ever since. The scope of this growth range from the number and types of activities offered, the number of individuals participating in the programs, and the events held within the City of Thorold for community residents. The motto has continued to be “People serving in, for, and with their community,” and thanks to the help and hard work of staff and our many volunteers, the Group has been able to continue providing services to the residents of Thorold.
