The fourth annual Family Cycling Day will be held in Thorold on , Sunday, August 28. Organizers hope to encourage families to use active transportation whenever possible. Meet at 1 pm, Memorial Park, Albert St.Begin at Memorial Park (Albert Street). 3 family rides. Choose 1km, 5km or 25km followed by a free community BBQ in the park!
Family Cycling Day is an opportunity to teach the kids a few important cycling skills such as hand signalling, shoulder checking and straight line riding.
Each of the rides will be led by members of the Active Transportation Committee. Rides are at a comfortable pace.
The Family Cycling Day event utilizes the Welland Canals Parkway, Thorold section, of the Greater Niagara Circle Route.
The group also has access to the Canadian Corps Museum which will be open that day as well.

Plans are being made to hold the previously postponed Heritage Stroll in September, when the temperatures will hopefully be more comfortable, says Dale.

The mandate forThorold Active Transportation Advisory Committee is to review and make recommendations to Thorold City Council on ways to improve human-powered forms of travel for transportation, commuting and recreational purposes. Did you know Thorold is ;located in the middle of the Niagara Region. Perched atop the Niagara escarpment it provides a spectacular view of northern Niagara including Lake Ontario as far as Toronto on a nice day. The Welland Canal Parkway Trail passes through Thorold alongside the Canal. The Thorold portion of the trail is at its most challenging here . The Trail is also part of the Greater Niagara Circle Route which is one of the world’s great cycle routes as it winds along the Canal, Lake Erie, the Niagara River and Lake Ontario.
