Inaugural Meeting of Council Sounds Nice – Difficult Decisions Ahead

Congratulations to the new Thorold City Council introduced to the community at the inauguration ceremony on November 22 hosted at John Michael’s Banquet Hall. Mayor Terry Ugulini was joined by Councillors Henry D’Angela, Carmen DeRose, Anthony Longo, Mike DeDivtiis, Nella Dekker, Jim Handley, Tim O’Hare (Ken Sentance was excused).

It all started with an impressive procession featuring the Niagara Regional Police Pipers and Drums followed by the Colour Guard with #128 Squadron Thorold Flying Dragons Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Positive vibes filled the atmosphere with the sounds of a community celebration.

Town Crier Tony Vandermaas chanted an official announcement that sounded awesome to open the ceremony.

From left, Tony chatted with Councillor DeRose, and Kirsten and Ken from Steadman Jewellers enjoying the gala.

Vocalist Nicolette Salire from Brock University set the tone with patriotism by leading the audience in singing O Canada.

Following the oath of office sworn by all of the members of city council in attendance, Mayor Ugulini presented the inaugural address. The audience heard about achievements of the past council, and goals for the next term.

It’s going to be an exciting four years ahead for the City of Thorold,” said Mayor Terry Ugulini, in a speech. “It’s our time. Let’s move forward together.”

Mayor Terry Ugulini

In the next four years council will be required to make difficult decisions by working together on testy issues affecting our community. Let’s wish for them, and for the good of our entire community, great success and bright future. These councillors are our city’s policymakers. Our community’s future rests in the hands and decisions of our newly elected city council.

As the council turns a new leaf, we should all expect that their decisions be guided by the wishes of all Thorold residents, not only those who elected them, and not just the people or groups that donated to their campaigns.
