Thoroldites joined the wave of people from across Niagara in raising their pride in the Italian culture, which was flying high and mighty above City Hall in St. Catharines at a civic ceremony on June 17.
Thorold residents Sam and Madeline Greco, Elsa Agnoletto, Tina Passero with her family, among others attended the ceremony at 11 am. The official flag raising ceremony saluting Italian Heritage Month featured the Club Roma Choir singing the Canadian and Italian national anthems.
St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik congratulated the local Italian community for their accomplishments in Canada.
Club Roma President Rob Costantini also inspired the audience in a speech encouraging everyone to join the festivities throughout Canada in honour of Italian Heritage Month.
Events hosted by local businesses and cultural organizations across Niagara celebrated all things Italian in June.
