Mental Health Series – One Thorold Wednesdays Via Zoom

A surge in depression, anxiety, and stresses caused by the Pandemic in the past two years has led One Church Thorold and One Thorold to partner with local leaders and professionals to offer a free 4-week series on mental health.

Anxiety and Fear, January 26, by Rebecca Hicks

The first session will be led by Rebecca Hicks, who is a Registered Nurse and has been working with Public Health for years in the Mental Health program and serves on their Early Psychosis Prevention Team. Rebecca will discuss the topic of Anxiety and Fear — a very appropriate for our society today.
The series also includes the following presentations:

Physical Health Towards Mental Health, February 2, Hilda Vaderklippe, an assistant chaplain at Brock University.

The Mind: A Banana Tree Full of Monkeys, February 9, Terence Schilstra, lead pastor of The Table in downtown Thorold and author of the book “Peace of the City.”

Emotions: Helpful and Harmful Ways to Manage Them, February 16, the Rev. Sara Katocz, Pastor, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Thorold.

The scheduling of the series comes at at point when many people in our community endure so-called cabin fever during the winter cold and isolation of the season. Those frustrations can mount even higher with the lifestyle restrictions and sickness among loved ones posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The local mental health series starts in the same week as the Bell Let’s Talk Day. The 12th annual national fundraising campaign that also keeps the conversation going tor raise awareness about mental health converns.
