Merrittville Gives Back – Joy Day at Holy Rosary School

Merrittville Speedway is revving up the joys of Christmas with an amazing gift giveaway to local students.

Joy Day at Holy Rosary School

On Friday, December 1, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Elementary School in Thorold celebrated Joy Day as part of the Advent season. Christmas decor adorned the doors and hallways in anticipation of the coming of Christ. As expectations were raised, friends from Merrittville Speedway revved up the excitement with the arrival of gifts galore.

On Joy Day, each class was invited to the school’s gymnasium to receive a gift presented by Don and Lorraine Spiece (owners of Merrittville Speedway) along with members of their family on the team effort. There were 723 Christmas gifts (one per student) presented to the Holy Rosary students on December 1st, and many, many more will follow at other schools including Prince of Wales, Richmond Street in Thorold as well as Glendale School in Welland.

“Wow! It feels amazing to see the kids enjoy the Christmas spirit. It’s all about giving back for us. We do it for the kids because you see the smiles on their faces.”

Lorraine Spiece, Owner, Merrittville Speedway

Sourcing all the toys and gifts takes a lot time and effort by Santa’s helpers assisting the Merrittville program. All the gift wrapping is done by Lorraine’s mother and father, taking four weeks to get them ready for the presentations. Visits to all the schools also needs to fit into busy schedules this time of the year, but it seems like everything is coming together nicely.
The presentations to the four schools are part of the Merrittville Gives Back program which will also be rocking on a 97.7 HTZ FM promotion.

Race to Holiday Cheer

The radio station says it is making a list and checking it twice, and they’re going to find out what schools are naughty or nice! 97.7 HTZ-FM, along with Merrittville Speedway, are celebrating the season while we Race to Holiday Cheer!

You can enter on the station’s website and tell them why your school is full of holiday cheer for the chance to have HTZ-FM Legends, Soper & Brown, and Joey Bricks, deliver toys to all the good girls and boys at your school!

In total, Merrittville Gives Back will hand out 3,000 gifts to kids during this Christmas season.
