MEDIA RELEASE
The City of Thorold and the City of St. Catharines have begun phase 1 reconstruction of St. David’s Road, from Collier Road to Foley Crescent.
The work will include replacement of the existing water mains, installation of new storm sewers and street lighting, and construction of a new roadbase, curbs, and asphalt. A new multi-use trail will be built on the south side of the roadway and a new sidewalk will be built on the north side.
A Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study was concluded in February 2021 that developed and evaluated a variety of road improvements that considered active transportation accommodations and incorporated urban road cross section, street lighting and overall aesthetics of the area.
“The City of Thorold’s 2023 budget focuses on moving key infrastructure projects forward, and St. David’s phase 1 reconstruction is one of those priority projects. The much-needed improvements from Collier Road to Foley Crescent have been a top priority for our Community, and I am thrilled to see construction beginning today.”
Mayor Terry Ugulini, City of Thorold
Phase 1 reconstruction will conclude in Fall of this year, with phase 2 reconstruction expected to begin in 2024 or 2025.
