Community spirit in Thorold is rising to produce a Jurassic Park style event at Club Belvedere where fans can cheer for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA finals with Golden State Warriors. Game 2 in the NBA finals will be played on Sunday, June 2, at 8:00 pm.
How did this idea develop into a community event plan in Thorold?
On MY Thorold Facebook page, Kurt Spitzig shared an article from The Score on “Neighboring Toronto Cities Opening Their Own ‘Jurassic Park’ for Finals.” The MY Thorold fan asked about a “viewing party for Thorold?”
Kurt’s comment triggered a conversation that engaged fans on the community page. The enthusiasm picked up momentum with many great ideas in the conversation on social media. The event planning faced technical challenges, and time constraints also posed pressure to book a venue and organize an outdoor viewing event in Thorold to feature the NBA finals.
In a search for an available venue for the outdoor viewing event, the idea scored on a successful call to Lou Venneri at Club Belvedere in Thorold.
“We put together the event plan in a day. So people shouldn’t expect the actual Jurassic Park in our parking lot at the Belvedere. So we are calling the event Thorassic Park.” said Lou.

The parking lot at Club Belvedere will be set up for a family friendly event featuring a giant screen to view game 2 on Sunday. For admission to Thorassic Park, fans can bring a non-perishable food item or make a cash donation for Community Care, St. Catharines & Thorold.

“The parking lot is not a licensed area for alcoholic beverages, but the club is licensed for service inside for beer, wine, and liquor,” said Lou.
