Thorold Auto Parts Promotes Public Safety Awareness on Distracted Driving
While fun was the focus of the Santa Clause Parade on Saturday, the team from Thorold Auto Parts and Recycling featured a float with safety in mind. A poster on the side of their big green and white truck advised the audience at the parade: “Don’t Text and Drive” Thorold Auto Parts owner Frank Serravalle told us that texting and driving as a form of distracted driving has escalated into a serious problem on the roads; bigger than drinking and driving.
The community minded company based in Thorold made a commitment to a public service campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of texting or phone use and driving. Frank plans to display signs on the rear side of the company’s fleet of trucks to help reduce the increasing rates of collisions from distracted driving. In fact, deaths from collisions caused by distracted driving have doubled since 2000 in Ontario, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Statistics on collisions from 2013 also indicate one person in Ontario is injured in a distracted-driving collision every 30 minutes, and a driver on a phone is 400 percent more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road.
As a good corporate citizen, Frank and his staff are stepping up to show leadership in the automotive services industry by raising awareness of the social problem.
Please share this message with your friends. Let’s all thank Frank and his team for starting the conversation to repair this social issue.
