Thorold Blackhawks New Logo Design Unveiled

How do you feel about the new style created for the Thorold Blackhawks minor hockey logo?

The change required a lengthy period of time and effort while the community was engaged in the re-branding by the Thorold Amateur Athletic Association.  Their new logo for the Thorold Blackhawks was unveiled at a presentation on Monday, March 7, at Club Capri.

Close to 30 people attended the presentation including local media, TAAA volunteers, city councillors, and local business owners including John Henderson from Henderson’s Pharmacy.

The audience was shown the new design that maintains the black and red colours as well as the Blackhawks name in the brand.  Congratulations to Philip Lagrotteria for creating the selected logo design.  In appreciation for his creative efforts, the TAAA awarded Philip a T-shirt and a certificate for a complimentary registration. Gift certificates were presented to Tyler Rowland and William Burkholder, the two finalists in the logo design competition.

Look for the new logo on the team jerseys and apparel when the minor hockey teams skate into the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Thorold Blackhawks  Logo Committee is Excited with New Branding

“The new logo involved input from the whole TAAA organization. Players, coaching staffs, parents, executive members and logo committee members were all offered the opportunity to be part of the process. In the end after the logo competition was shortlisted to three finalists, the outcome of the voting process was overwhelming support for the new logo,” says Terry Ugulini a member of the TAAA Logo Committee.

We have learned that the TAAA was never opposed to changing the logo but wanted to manage the rebranding cost-effectively, while making a transition for all the Thorold hockey teams together at a single specified date.

“This process created buy in and now allows the organization to go out in the community and get the remaining financial support required to achieve their goal. By maintaining the same team colours and name Black Hawks the financial impact on the parents has been lessened,” noted Terry, a City Councillor as well as a TAAA volunteer.

The TAAA is expected to distribute tenders to three suppliers for new uniforms.  The volunteers will now shoot for a big fundraising drive to score some money to support the change.

The group plans to hit local businesses for financial support to help defray the expenses expected to introduce the new logo into the operations.  For starters, Henderson’s Pharmacy has stepped up with a commitment to donate to the cause.  As the community pulls together to achieve the campaign’s financial goal, it also shows the importance to shop Thorold and buy local.  When the local businesses are in a solid financial position because of loyal support by local consumers, our home town businesses will check in with a strong shot to help the TAAA score positive results.  Shop Thorold and we all win together.
