Pharmacy Awareness Month – Recognizes Pharmacists Extraordinary Health Care Role

Pharmacy Awareness Month, the Canadian Pharmacist Association’s annual national campaign that shines a spotlight on all things pharmacy, is moving from ‘awareness’ to ‘appreciation’ this March to better reflect and celebrate the extraordinary role pharmacists play in health care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Locally, at Henderson’s Pharmacy in Thorold, Pharmacist Awareness Month in March is an opportunity to show us their team of pharmacists does more than just fill prescriptions. When we really think about it, we realize that Henderson’s team of pharmacists can provide vaccinations, support for managing chronic conditions and common ailments, help with quit smoking and so much more..

Throughout this pandemic, our team at Henderson’s Pharmacy has been here 7 days a week when you need us to answer questions, address concerns, fill prescriptions, while keeping patients and staff safe.

“Your pharmacist is ready to help in more ways than you think. From chronic conditions to healthy living and more. Speak with one of our pharmacists about all your health needs,”

John Henderson, owner / pharmacist at Henderson’s Pharmacy.

Throughout March, the Canadian Pharmacists Association invities us to celebrate Pharmacy Appreciation Month and recognize the reasons pharmacy is special.

Let’s Show Our Appreciation for Pharmacists

Convenient, accessible and close to home, our pharmacists are there for us when we need them — including evenings and weekends. For example, Henderson’s Pharmacy is open 7 days a week, and offers free delivery. Overall, across Canada, pharmacists are the most accessible health-care providers in the country — a fact that became more apparent than ever throughout COVID-19. Here are a few ways the CPA suggests we can get involved:

  • Wish your pharmacy team a Happy Pharmacy Appreciation Month next time you are at the pharmacy.
  • Have a pharmacy team member you love? Enter the CPA’s #MyFavePharm contest and you’ll be entered into a draw for an opportunity to win a tablet for both you and your favourite pharmacy team member. Learn more on the CPA website.
  • Stay connected and learn how your pharmacist at Henderson’s can assist with your healthcare concerns. Go to hendersonspharmacy.ca.

“Staying open and accessible throughout the pandemic, the pharmacy community stepped up like never before to answer questions, allay concerns, provide additional health care services, and give a record number of flu shots, all the while putting in the necessary procedures to protect their staff and patients,”

says Christina Tulk, Chair, Canadian Pharmacists Association.

Tulk, a frontline pharmacist in Corner Brook, NL, has seen firsthand the extraordinary efforts demonstrated by pharmacists over the past year.

“The profession has really shown that it is up to the task during this unprecedented time and I could not be prouder to be a pharmacist. As key members of health care teams slated to administer the COVID-19 vaccine – the largest public health mobilization of its type in Canadian history – it’s time to celebrate the work of pharmacy professionals for the role they play, day in, day out,” .

added Tulk

From renewing prescriptions, delivering vaccinations, providing medication management services, and assessing and prescribing for minor ailments and conditions, there are more reasons than ever to celebrate the pharmacy profession, highlight the health care services now offered at the pharmacy and encourage Canadians to thank their pharmacy professional.
This March 2021 let’s celebrate and appreciate the pharmacy professionals who have been there for our community throughout the pandemic.
