As the Fall season awaits the end of the Niagara Summer, the Thorold Harvest Fest on September 10 and 11 will help us stock up for the cooler weather by featuring a variety of squash in a farmers’ market.
As a celebration of all the goodness in Niagara, the community event to be held at Holy Rosary Hall in Thorold is the place to find squash and other items such as potted mums from Schenck Farms.
Squash is a versatile vegetable that is a popular food across Niagara. The Harvest Fest selection sourced from growers supplying Thorold Foodland will offer buyers three options including Butternut Squash, Acorn Squash, and Spaghetti Squash.
What could you do with this array of squash?
Endless possibilities for cooking squash make it a popular and versatile food in the Autumn.

I’ve actually made a version of this recipe a few times and we love it.
Thorold native, Claire D’Intino Mazza
I skipped the cilantro and jalepenos, skipped the red peppers, use homemade tomato sauce of course, added ground beef and taco seasoning. It’s like a taco in a squash boat. You can do same with zucchini. This is a perfect way to pack a punch with all your nutrient needs. An excellent source of B-vitamins, fiber, Vitamin C, and manganese that is super filling and also low in calories.
