Knights Host Giving Back Weekend October 15 – 16

A Giving Back Weekend in Thorold including a bottle drive, used battery collection and food bank campaign will be hosted by the Knights of Columbus 2319 on October 15th and 16th.

The charity event will support of the Walker Family Cancer Center as well as the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank. Donations can be brought to the foyer in front of Holy Rosary Hall, 35 Queen Street South, Thorold. The convenient drive-up and drop off schedule will run from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, October 15th and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, October 16th. K of C volunteers will be on site to assist.

Bottle Drive

The Giving Back Weekend is an opportunity to do our part to save the environment, while supporting the Walker Family Cancer Center by dropping off beverage alcohol containers purchased in Ontario on which a deposit has been paid. All collected wine, beer, and spirit containers over 100ml have a deposit value of 10 or 20 cents.

All proceeds from the collection will be donated to the Walker Family Cancer Center.

“We invite those who can give back to help people in need to support this campaign. We make it easy to drive up, drop off bottles or old batteries to save the environment and support a local charity.”

Used Battery Drop-off

The Knights also encourage people in our community to do the right thing by conveniently recycling their used batteries to drive them away from local landfills.

“The recycling program is a win-win for the community to support. We can clean out junk that has been piling up in homes during the shutdowns, recycle batteries, empty beer, wine or liquor bottles, or drop off non-perishable foods to support a worthy charity.”

explained Ciamarra.

Food Drive for St. Vincent DePaul

All non-perishable food donations will go to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. Donors don’t even have to open their wallets to support the charities during the Giving Back Weekend.

“We can save hundreds of batteries or bottles from polluting the environment or unnecessarily filling landfill sites, while also providing food for local families in need”

The Knights of Columbus held a successful bottle drive as part of the Garden Fest event in April. Motivated by that success, the group has organized the Giving Back Weekend in October.
